Now this looks interesting. The Merged calls it a potential game changer - and I agree. Absolutely no bearings to worry about. Matt over at kinkbmx.com says, “We thought about loose ball bearings, sealed bearings, bushings, and finally about eliminating the bearing altogether and simply using the pedal body itself.” They’ve been testing them for almost a year now and are excited on the results.
The spindle has been redesigned. Unlike your standard pedal spindle, Kink’s new patented spindle is not tapered at the end allowing “to make a super strong, large diameter, hollow spindle” that can take a beating.
The way it seems to work is the spindle is lubed up with some grease, slides in and fastened to the pedal body and then to your cranks. Boom! You hit the streets and shred.
Another feature to these pedals is that the pedal bodies are designed to be used on either the left or right side, so getting a replacement is simple. No need to worry about which side you need to buy. Kink says the pedal is easy to maintain and installs with either a 6 mm allen key or 3/8” ratchet.
